My of thinking of it is that a SVM wants to reach the biggest margin possbile but at the same time limit the amount of support vectors in the margin. That means that removing a vectors that is just in the border of the margin will make it possible for the SVM to increase the margin even more without increasing the amount of support vectors in the margin.
TLDR the margin increases if you remove vectors at the border.
