Feature selection detailed explanation and appendix length

We have a question concerning the rapport. During, the project we mainly applied various feature selection methods to our data sets. We thought it wise to include a quick explanation of each of these methods as feature selection is not really something we talked about during the course. However, explaining all these methods takes a lot of space in the limited 4 pages we are allowed.
Could we only include the explanation for the methods that worked well on our data and put the rest in the appendix? Or should we assume that the reader is already familiar with these methods? Also, what is an acceptable size for the appendix?

yes. appendix is unlimited size. but you will be graded mostly based on the main part
