Are the additional notes/readings at the end of each lecture note required for the exam?

I'd like to ask if the additional notes/readings at the end of each lecture are within the scope of the exam.
I remember that the content of additional notes/readings is claimed to be "advanced". But I found this in exercise01.pdf. It says we should not only read the additional material but also do the exercises in the recommended books. So I want to make sure.
